Atlanta Braves pitcher Spencer Strider has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain. Strider expressed clear frustration with the injury, saying, “I’ve pitched through pain, discomfort, and injury before. If I were able to do that, we wouldn’t be here right now. I’d be pitching today.”
Strider just wants to be out with the team contributing, and said the it sucks to be here again. He had just returned and got one game in. Strider noted there were no signs or soreness leading up to the injury and said he has no clue why it happened. Strider was just making a routine throw when the injury took place.
A timetable for his return will be determined over the next couple of weeks as the Braves monitor his recovery. These hamstring issues can be tricky and tedious. Atlanta definitely doesn't want to rush him back too soon. None of us want this to be a reoccurring thing.
Tonight, Atlanta is turning to Scott Blewett to make the start. Blewett joined the Braves last week after being acquired off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles. Nathan Wiles is also available for tonight if needed, according to Brian Snitker. The pitching rotation has been doing its best to keep things steady, and during the team’s current four-game winning streak, they’ve got the job done, along with help from a surging Atlanta offense. The bullpen has also made noticeable strides in recent outings. While there are still some areas in need of improvement, this season is a marathon, not a sprint.
In other news, Craig Kimbrel has been added to Triple-A Gwinnett. If Atlanta can get anything close to the Kimbrel of old, or even a glimpse of it, it would be a huge boost to the Braves’ staff whenever they decide to bring him up.
