Atlanta Braves outfielder Jurickson Profar has been suspended for 80 games after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug, according to multiple reports. The news was first reported by MLB insider Mike Rodriguez and has since been confirmed by other sources.
Profar, 32, joined the Braves this past offseason on a three-year, $42 million contract following a strong 2024 campaign with the San Diego Padres, where he hit .280 with 24 home runs and 85 RBIs. His suspension comes after testing positive for human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a substance banned under Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
As a result of the suspension, Profar will miss the first half of the 2025 season, and will also be unavailable for the post season, if the Braves make it. His absence leaves a significant hole in the Braves' outfield, forcing Atlanta to adjust its lineup with this news. In response, the team recently acquired outfielder Stuart Fairchild from the Cincinnati Reds, potentially as a depth move to help cover for Profar’s absence.
The Atlanta Braves just released a statement on Profar’s suspension. “We were surprised and extremely disappointed to learn that Jurikson Profar tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance in violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Prevention and Treatment Program. We fully support the Program and are hopeful that Jurikson will learn from this experience.” This news breaks just before the Braves are scheduled to play the Dodgers tonight at 10:10 p.m.
