After days of anticipation, Spencer Strider provided a promising update on his recovery. The right-hander threw a strong bullpen session on Wednesday and is scheduled for another on Saturday. Strider shared that he received a PPP injection shortly after suffering his hamstring strain, which he believes helped speed up the healing process and brought the leg back to full strength. He said he feels ready, but understands the decision to return isn’t his to make.
Manager Brian Snitker said the team will determine after Saturday’s session whether Strider will need a rehab start. Snitker also mentioned the Braves could consider moving to a six-man rotation once Strider rejoins the staff. With the starting rotation gaining confidence and consistency as the season progresses, adding depth and giving pitchers an extra day of rest could be a smart move.
With the recent total body of work this Atlanta pitching staff has turned in, you have to feel a little more confident about where things stand. While there are always going to be days when a pitcher doesn’t have their best stuff, the overall trend is clearly moving in the right direction. If the current group can keep stringing together solid outings, the Braves will be in a stronger position with both depth and flexibility moving forward.
